'Do not ban overseas mobile downloads'

'Do not ban overseas mobile downloads' Mobile operators should think carefully before implementing a ban on international mobile broadband downloads following an EU threat to impose legal measures, says AdaptiveMobile.

The European commission wants operators to slash the amount they charge their mobile broadband customers for roaming on overseas networks.

But some operators are now considering banning all customers from downloading data while abroad.

AdaptiveMobile, which claims to be the leading security provider of mobile subscriber protection, says that operators run the risk of losing "very significant" revenues.

Gareth Maclachlan, a spokesman for AdaptiveMobile, said that operators should instead take "better control" of their network and offer a bespoke service to each user.

"In this way, they can not only control subscribers' mobile broadband usage in the UK and abroad, but also the type of content that is being delivered over their network," he added.

Last month, AdaptiveMobile urged mobile operators to beef up security for their subscribers in order to protect them against the rising number of virus attacks.
