'Virgin to focus more on broadband'
A campaign to recruit broadband and cable television customers could end Virgin Media's corporate telecoms market presence, it has been reported.
It is still unclear whether Virgin will sell off its telecoms division or combine it with another supplier.
If sold, it the move would generate £600 million for Virgin and allow the company to strengthen its home broadband and TV offerings, says the Times.
The future of Virgin's content division, which includes the Trouble and Bravo channels, is also uncertain, it is claimed.
Virgin's current efforts to attract more broadband customers are focused on encouraging people to switch from copper to fibre optics.
At the end of last month, Virgin said it intended to dramatically boost broadband speeds over the next four years.
The company is hoping to offer customers speeds of up to 50 mbps in the coming year, perhaps rising to 200 mbps by 2012.
