Tiscali sues BT for defamation

Tiscali has confirmed it is suing BT for defamation and malicious falsehood following a marketing campaign that encouraged Tiscali customers to defect.
BT recently sent out thousands of letters to Tiscali broadband users, suggesting that their internet provision may be in doubt.
Each letter invited customers to switch to an alternative provider and had the headline 'Tiscali chief plots sell-off'.

Tiscali and BT in broadband row

A war of words has broken out between Tiscali and BT over the former's provision of home broadband services.
BT had told Tiscali customers that their broadband provision may be in doubt. Tiscali has responded by threatening to take legal action against BT.
A letter, with the headline 'Tiscali chief plots sell-off', was sent to customers of Tiscali and Pipex. It continues by inviting customers to switch to an alternative provider.

Launch of On Demand Entertainment Awards

Some of the best entertainment available on broadband will be celebrated in the new On Demand Entertainment Awards from Tiscali.
The internet service provider is launching the awards to celebrate the people and organisations behind on-demand programming that is available over the internet, as well as on mobile technologies and television.
According to the firm, the awards are set to take place in London, when the results of industry and public votes will be announced in a special ceremony.

Tiscali breaks 2m customer mark
Broadband provider Tiscali has announced that it is has passed the two million customer mark during the last three months.
In its quarterly financial results, the Italian-based firm said that it has added 638,000 broadband customers since the start of 2007, but had recorded just 36,000 Tiscali TV customers.
The majority of the increase in customer base has been put down to the acquision of rival broadband provider Pipex earlier this year, which Tiscali paid £210 million for. The company has over 4.2 million customers across Europe.
A statement from Tiscali said: "The acquisition of Pipex has further strengthened the competitive position of Tiscali in the UK as one of the main integrated telephone operators, with approximately two million broadband customers and capable of offering to its customers internet access, voice and multimedia services"
Tiscali launched its on-demand internet-based television service, Tiscali TV, in September.
