AOL UK to remove AOL Hometown service

AOL UK has announced that it will be removing its Hometown Webspace FTP service.
At the end of October, the internet service provider (ISP) will no longer allow customers to have personal FTP accessible space online to create their own small websites.
The company stated that the rising use of other web hosting services on the internet meant that many of its customers were already looking elsewhere.

Credit crunch 'leads to increased broadband switching'

Recent reports have shown that increasing numbers of consumers are switching their broadband providers to save money during the credit crunch.
According to a survey by AOL Broadband, 59 per cent of consumers in the UK have switched their suppliers for a service such as mobile phones and broadband, reports SourceWire.com.
Long-term contracts seem to be one of the main casualties as subscribers look for cheaper short-term options.

UK performs poorly in broadband rankings

A recent study into the broadband speeds in a variety of countries has found that the UK does not place in the top ten.
Carried out by Cisco Systems, the research revealed that Japan had the best broadband speeds and download performance with an average of over 16 Mbps, reports ISP Review.com.
Baltic and eastern European nations ranked well in the study, with Latvia, Lithuania and Bulgaria all placing highly.
