Orange has announced that it will be offering free broadband to firms that sign up to its Solo plan.

According to the company, the scheme is aimed at small businesses and those who work for themselves.

The Solo mobile plan costs £30 each month and those who take advantage of the deal will also get free Broadband for Business.

Included in this will be a free wireless router, unlimited downloads and speeds of up to 8Mbps.

All can expect to receive free customer support and just one bill for their voice and broadband use.

Earlier this year, Orange launched a free broadband offer for consumers after improving its network.

The internet service provider (ISP) is now capable of offering faster speeds to users, with 8Mbps becoming a standard.

Martin Lyne, director of SME, Orange Business UK, commented: " The improvements in the quality of our broadband network mean we can now offer faster broadband for free to our small business customers, with all the support they need to get up and running.

"It’s making broadband more affordable and accessible for small business customers."

Statistics released recently by Point-Topic reveal that UK broadband has suffered of late due to the economic situation.

It was found that the number of new lines added between July and September fell by 20 per cent compared with earlier predictions.

Virgin Media continued to grow, adding 60,000 new lines in this period while BT suffered, losing 70,000.

Point-Topic has estimated that only 620,000 connections will be made in the second half of 2008, while the estimates for 2009 is 1.1 million, 200,000 less than originally predicted.
