Online videos 'could overtake traditional TV'
PCs are fast becoming the second broadcasting screen in the home after the television thanks to broadband, it has been claimed.
According to Social Media Portal, the internet has the potential to become more important than the TV when it comes to broadcasting.
Video content is becoming increasingly popular, with many businesses relying on video streaming to enhance their websites.
This is in addition to social networking sites, which depend heavily on this kind of content.
In fact, broadcasting live content over the internet can be done with little effort, says Social Media Portal.
Rachel Hawkes, co-founder of the portal, said there are many social networking sites that allow both individuals and businesses to become "citizen journalists", effectively creating their own online TV station.
Last week, Thinkbox said that online television catch-up services have not dented traditional TV viewing figures.
A report by the UK's commercial TV marketing body found that BBC iPlayer, ITV.com, Sky Player and 4oD are actually adding to viewing figures.
