Internet service provider (ISP) Vaioni has announced that firms in London will be able to lease a high-speed broadband connection with speeds of up to 100Mbps.

The service costs £800 each month and is available to any company via a "pure Ethernet, fibre optic layer two connection", reports ISP Review.

Vaioni guarantee to fix any problems with the service within four hours and say that it has a 99.96 SLA.

Sachin Vaish of Vaoini commented: "However this 100mb offer should allow businesses to not only extend their budget in other areas of telecoms and IT, but get more for their money. We are hoping to bring this to Manchester and other major cities in the near future."

He added that the move is part of the company's credit crunch strategy and said that businesses need to get more out of their telecoms.

Mr Vaish said that companies are consolidating very quickly at the moment and said that a large number of organisations are reducing the amount that they spend on IT and telecoms.

High-speed connections will soon be available for home users in the UK, as some ISPs are trialling them in a variety of locations.

Other countries such as Korea and Japan already have state-subsidised fibre optic networks which enable the average user to connect to 100Mbps broadband if they desire it.

According to Thomas Newton, a broadband expert for UK Web Media, these countries have promised speeds of up to 100Mbps but most only achieve around 45Mbps.

However, this is still significantly faster than in the UK, where the fastest home connection on offer is 24Mbps through companies such as Virgin Media.
