Extension for Wi-Fi city

Extension for Wi-Fi city A scheme offering a free Wi-Fi network in Norwich has been extended for three months, according to the Norwich Evening News.

The extension has been granted to allow a further study into the usefulness of the Norfolk Openlink project and whether it could be supported by advertising.

Project director of Openlink Ann Carey explained: "We are aware that there is a lot of interest in keeping the service and we are looking at whether there is a way, commercially, of doing this."

It was reported that the two-year pilot was launched to offer greater access to broadband, highlighting its importance in today's schools and homes.

The initiative, which cost £1.35 million, involved connected ariels to lampposts around the city to improve mobile technology take-up.

However even if the scheme does not continue, the latest offers such as Tiscali's superfast broadband from £6.49 per month mean that broadband connections may still be accessible to all.
