Broadband users are being given back the consumer power which was eroded in the 20th century, according to the managing director of Vonage.
Vincent Potier has spoken about how the internet has reversed the power of big companies who could previously have persuaded consumers to buy products which were not right for them.
It was explained by Mr Potier: "I believe that the internet, because it is a network and a medium at the same time, has given back that level of autonomy and that level of decision-making power to the consumers."
Meanwhile, a survey by Verdict Research has shown that in spite of the general downturn of the economy, online shopping is continuing to thrive in the UK, with £14.7 billion spent last year.
Vonage deals with internet telephone services, VoIP, for consumers who may wish to use their broadband service to call friends and family, or for business purposes.
