Many broadband users would like to have a connection without the wires, a study has shown.
A survey commissioned by mobile firm Motorola has found that almost half of broadband customers would like a wireless connection, especially when on the move.
Many respondents said they were keen to use their broadband to check e-mails while out and about, while others said that they would use the connection to access news and media or just for general entertainment.
Some 57 per cent of respondents said that they would like wireless broadband in places where it was convenient for them.
"Consumers clearly want to eliminate broadband cables or wires to access high-speed internet connectivity," said Fred Wright from Motorola.
He added that worldwide, increasing numbers of broadband providers were interested in delivering wireless services, whether in cities and urban areas or rural centres.
Despite the results, website ZDNet.co.uk recently claimed that WiMax broadband access was lagging in the UK.
