Internet users in some areas of Norfolk should receive support so they can enjoy a broadband connection, according to local MP Norman Lamb.

Mr Lamb has said that a multi-agency approach is required to serve rural areas, explaining that agencies such as BT may be involved in the solution, reports the Eastern Daily Press.

Commenting on the importance of universal access to broadband, Mr Lamb said: "In this day and age people should not be discriminated against in this way, it is a very important principle."

Although he did not have figures available to ascertain how many households are currently unable to become broadband customers, it is said to be an above average number.

Meanwhile, while rural areas struggle to get broadband access, Norwich city enjoys a free wi-fi network which has just been given a three-month extension to a trial period.

However, broadband customers without wireless capabilities, or those outside the city's signal, may still have to search for the best broadband package to ensure reliable access.
