VoIP 'poised for rapid growth'

VoIP 'poised for rapid growth' VoIP is set for rapid growth, according to the results of a recent survey on the existing market and future customer needs.

The report from J Arnold & Associates - entitled VoIP Peering: State of the Market and Strategic Analysis of Customer Needs - revealed carriers believe that they are only now learning how to fully benefit from VoIP peering.

According to the study, respondents peer an average of less than a quarter of their traffic, but others are now peering all of it.

The paper claims that carriers peering VoIP traffic offer expanded service coverage, resulting in increased competitiveness and more rapid penetration of new markets.

John Longo, vice president of marketing at NexTone, said: "The survey confirms that VoIP peering continues to grow as carriers expand their numbers of peering partners and look to offer new services."

He added that the findings of the study will help ensure service provider consumers better exploit the possibilities of VoIP peering.

VoIP peering refers to the use of VoIP technology to forward voice calls from one internet telephony service provider to another.
