VoIP 'is more secure than other phone systems'

VoIP 'is more secure than other phone systems' Internet experts are insisting that Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls are more secure than traditional phone systems, despite two high-profile security conferences claiming otherwise.

The recent Black Hat and Defcon conferences have seen a range of security flaws uncovered in VoIP, with researchers releasing hacking tools against VoIP signaling protocols at Black Hat.

However Aro Takanen, founder of Codenomicon, told telappliant.com: "IP systems are more exposed, but you have more security that you can install."

VoIP Security Alliance, the industry safety group, is now actively distributing hacking tools to industry experts, in an attempt to flag up any remaining security issues with the technology.

Earlier this month, the world's most popular VoIP provider, Skype, went offline for five days due to problems with its logging in systems.
