Sky has announced a number of additions to its broadband service in the past week.

The internet service provider (ISP) has stated that it is planning to enhance its ASDL platform with DSL Expresse.

This is a software based management system that should improve broadband performance.

It does this by continuously optimising the performance of the ISPs ADSL circuits and is currently being used in a variety of networks.

Over 14 million broadband connections use the system but Sky will be the first company to install it in the UK.

Mohammed Hammady, director of Sky Network Services, commented: "We think dynamic spectrum management tools have significant potential for use in our network and are part of our commitment to offer customers the best possible broadband experience."

Sky has also made improvements to its broadband television service by teaming up with the BBC.

A deal made between the two companies will enable the firm to offer the BBC iPlayer to its customers.

Sky's player will now offer customers a series of BBC branded sections as well as access to live television and on-demand content.

The ISP will also offer access to content from BBC channels, which will be listed in Sky Player according to its genre.

Once a programme has been selected, viewers will be redirected to the BBC website.

Both of the services require a broadband connection, according to ISP Review, which says that a regular speed of at least 1Mbps is preferable.

The fastest broadband Sky offers is its Max package fro £10 a month, which has speeds of up to 16Mbps.
