Microsoft searches for Google's users

Microsoft searches for Google's users Software giant Microsoft has launched a new advance on Google's market share by unveiling an improved search engine.

A new version of its Windows Live Search product aims to deliver more results on a single page, as well as offering video results.

Launched in 2003, the search engine has been striving to catch up with market leader Google since the start. The new improvements, which include an upgraded maps system, bring it on an even technology footing with the rest of the market, Reuters reports.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft's corporate vice president, told the news agency: "The first step was to have a credible product. Google has been ahead of us and we believe with this release we've caught up and we can compete effectively in terms of search quality."

Microsoft is the third most popular search engine in the US, behind Google and Yahoo!, according to comScore.
