BT Broadband is at the forefront of the UK's broadband market. BT Internet has become the largest provider of broadband services in the UK with their primary focus on providing families with complete user-friendly broadband and call packages.

There are currently three BT Broadband products available – Option 1, Option 2 and Option 3 – and all of which provide the same fast connection speed of up to 8Mbps, and coming equipped with a Norton Security package as standard. Download limits range from 10GB a month with Option 1 to as much as you like with Option 3.

BT Broadband utilises Yahoo Explorer to navigate the web either through a BT Voyager 220 wired Ethernet router, or the new improved BT Home Hub 2.0. The Ethernet router that comes with Option 1 can be upgraded to the wireless BT Home Hub 2.0 for a fixed fee; the Home Hub comes as standard with the Option 2 package and Option 3 customers get the Home Hub with a Hub Phone handset.

Whichever BT Broadband Option you subscribe to, all the required cables and components (DSL cable, micro-filters, USB cable, Ethernet and a VoIP converter for BT Broadband Talk) are all provided as part of the BT Internet deal.

After signing up, BT Broadband customers can also sign up for on-demand Digital TV entertainment with BT Vision, which gives customers access to the digital terrestrial Freeview channels and a range of optional TV channel mixes include the best of UK and US TV entertainment, top Hollywood entertainment, and full coverage of the Barclays Premier League including live football action courtesy of Setanta Sports. BT Broadband – good service so far

Review by: MSteen, 18/06/2008 at 09:21:30
After living for four years with a 56kbps dial-up connection which isn’t great for things like gaming, downloading music etc. I decided it was finally time to take the plunge and install a braodband connection. I looked at a number of providers but in the end plumped for BT. I know that on programmes like watchdog there have been a lot of complaints about BTs customer service, but they do our phone line and we’ve always found them reliable. I have to say that, having been connected for two months now, I’ve been no less disappointed with BT’s broadband service. At £29.99 a month for the 1 mbps service it compared favourably with other providers and you got a free modem (a SpeedTouch which seems to be standard for most providers), whereas other providers were charging £100 for a modem, though their connection was often faster. For us it wasn’t worth spending the extra on a modem in order to get a faster connection – the BT connection was fine for our needs.
There are some disadvantages however. In order to get BT Broadband you need to have a phone point next to your PC – you can’t use extension cables. We had to get someone in to install a new phone point, which cost us £110. Of course you can do it yourself for cheaper but this is a bit tricky. If you don’t need this then all you need is the kit that BT supply, which comes in a few working days. You receive the modem, all leads, two phone filters which plug into your phone socket(s) and allow you to use voice calls at the same time as internet calls, and installation instructions. However you may have to wait a few days more for your line to become ADSL enabled – this is the point at which you can install and use your broadband service. This whole process took us about three weeks. The modem was really easy to install – all you had to do was plug it in. attach it to the computer and follow the instructions on the CD that BT provide you with.
All in all we’ve had a good service, though we’ve had no cause to complain as yet, so I don’t know how customer services would deal with this.

BT not bad service at all

Review by: LeeBoothroyd, 27/03/2008 at 09:11:31
I've not really had a problem with BT, save for the fact that 'Unlimited' really shouldn’t be advertised as such, but BT aren't the only ones who seem to be oblivious to the dictionary definition when it comes to this particular word.

That said, it's hard to fault the service I am currently getting; averaging at around 6-7 Mb on most days, dipping down to about 4 when things get bad.

I'm interested in these interstitial plates that hopefully will be on sale soon, these little device apparently clear up broadband connections allowing for faster speeds.

I thin k it's a given these days that people are familiar with the fact that 'Unlimited usage' doesn't actually mean 'unlimited usage', but then again that's marketing for you.

All good for me

Review by: clarkymj, 19/03/2008 at 21:20:47
I've only ever used BT for broadband and there's a very good reason... They're fantastic. I know people have problems but c'mon, not everthing is perfect right?!

I find great value for money and the services keep being updated/upgraded etc.. I'm about to sign up for broadband anywhere for only £5 extra per month. I'll get a phone worth £200 free!! More to it obviously but It'll be cheaper than running my current o2 mobile.

All in all, I'm a big fan of the bt services, from vision to broadband. Customer services have always been to a good standard in my opinion, not perfect but satisfactory.

BT Broadband - safe bet

Review by: Tom, 08/01/2008 at 15:55:08
I've been with BT Broadband ever since the dial-up days back when I lived with my folks, and had a pretty bad experience with a cowboy ISP when I rented a flat in Southampton when I was studying, changed back to BT and everything was fine.

It makes sense to go with BT unless you go cable, you pretty much have to pay them line rental whoever you go with, with a few exceptions, and their engineers are on hand to look after the phone lines, make sure everything works, unlike some providers who are pretty reliable when it comes to taking your money, but simply don’t want to know when something goes wrong, and just defer responsibility back to BT.

Their prices and speeds might not be as attractive as some, but you definitely get what you pay for.
